Why Sofia
Sofia is more than a venue.
South-East Europe holds real potential to become one of Europe's major renewable-energy, hydrogen and infrastructure regions. Sofia sits on a planned hydrogen infrastructure route connecting Bulgaria with the wider South-East European Hydrogen Corridor (SEEHyC), designed to connect generation regions in the south with industrial demand centres in Central Europe.
That is also why the forum carries its name: Sofia Energy Forum is meant to be where this conversation about South-East Europe's energy future happens.
The Corridor
South-East European Hydrogen Corridor (SEEHyC)
A cross-border pipeline vision connecting renewable generation regions in South-East Europe with industrial demand centres in Central Europe.
SEEHyC is designed to link generation potential in Greece and Bulgaria with demand centres in southern and central Germany, routed through Romania, Hungary, Slovakia and Czechia.

Eight transmission system operators are behind the project:
DESFA (Greece), Bulgartransgaz (Bulgaria), Transgaz (Romania), FGSZ (Hungary), Eustream (Slovakia), NET4GAS (Czechia), and OGE and naTran (Germany).

EU CEF grant for Sofia–Kulata (Jan 2026)
The Sofia–Kulata section — the first phase of Bulgaria's hydrogen backbone — is currently the only approved hydrogen-related investment in Eastern Europe under this EU funding call. Commercial operation of the full corridor is targeted for the early 2030s, subject to final confirmation.
A continental priority — complementary to, not opposed to, maritime hydrogen imports.
